"I just want to check my balance," said the 90-year-old woman. The banker smiled sarcastically... until the truth left everyone speechless.

"I remember him saying that people like me should be grateful to serve people like him," Evelyn added softly. "That it was our place."

He gave a faint, sad smile.

—It's curious how these ideas are transmitted, isn't it, Mr. Whitmore?

Daniel's face turned red. A thin line of sweat formed at his temple.

"They're just stories," he murmured. "Anyone could say that."

Evelyn didn't blink.

"He had a scar on his left hand," she said slowly. "From the day he tried to break a glass over my head. He missed. He cut himself. He told everyone it was a gardening accident."

The room fell into complete silence.

Some customers discreetly slipped away towards the exit.

Nobody wanted to witness what it was turning into.

"I spent seventy years wondering if I would ever have the opportunity to show this family what happens when someone like me refuses to remain invisible," Evelyn said.

Daniel's voice broke.

-Security…

But before anyone moved…

The main doors opened.

Robert Sinclair, senior vice president and founding member of the board of directors, entered.

"Daniel," he said calmly, "why can I hear you from up above?"

Daniel hurried over.

—This woman… she’s confused, she’s pretending…

Robert didn't listen.

He drove right past.

Towards Evelyn.

"Evelyn," he said kindly, "it's good to see you. Is everything alright?"

The room fell silent.

Daniel's confidence vanished, transforming into something akin to fear.

Evelyn smiled slightly.

"She thinks I don't belong here," she said.

Robert turned around slowly.

—To my office. Right now.

Daniel obeyed, like a man who has suddenly lost all authority.

Moments later, Emily returned with a tablet.

"Mrs. Carter," he said gently, "would you like to review your account privately?"

Evelyn shook her head.

—No. Right here.

Transparency was important.

Emily hesitated for a moment and then read aloud.

“Eight hundred and forty-seven thousand dollars…”

A wave of surprise swept through the room.

She continued.
